The next couple weeks are full of fun events & Independence Day celebrations. Be sure to check in each week as we’ll be sharing info on all the best events.

In this week’s Scoop:

  • Gas prices on the move?

~ The wait is over. Buc-ee's officially opened its first Arizona location this week in Goodyear, marking the westernmost store in the chain's growing footprint. Known for its massive size, endless snack options, barbecue, and cult-like following, the Texas travel center has finally arrived in Arizona, and early reports suggest plenty of people were eager to be among the first through the doors. ~ Drivers across the Valley received a little relief at the pump this week. According to AAA data, Arizona gas prices have fallen by more than 20 cents per gallon over the past week, with Phoenix-area prices dropping to around $4.37 per gallon on average. While prices remain higher than many parts of the country, the recent decline is welcome news for anyone planning Fourth of July road trips or summer travel.

I paid $3.79 at Sam’s Club on Tuesday, and I’ve seen as low as $3.95 per gallon at non-membership gas stations.

~ The Valley is full of events for Independence Day and some of the best ones are the fireworks shows. AZ Central has put together a guide of all the best ones happening now through the holiday. See all the details at AZCentral.com

High above the Sonoran Desert sits one of the most important astronomical research centers in the world, and it's right here in Arizona.

Most Arizonans know our state is famous for sKittine, but that same sunshine, combined with dry air and dark skies, helped make Arizona a global center for astronomy.

One of the best examples is Kitt Peak National Observatory, located about 55 miles southwest of Tucson on the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Perched at nearly 7,000 feet above sea level, Kitt Peak is home to more than 20 optical and radio telescopes, making it one of the largest collections of astronomical instruments anywhere in the world.
