A Quick Note About the Images You See in the Newsletter

If you have been reading the newsletter for a while, you may have noticed that many of the articles include images to help illustrate the story. Photos are a great way to bring a topic to life, whether it is a piece of local history, a community event, or something happening around Sun City and the West Valley.

Whenever possible, I try to use my own photos. Living in the area makes it easy to capture images of local landmarks, parks, businesses, and neighborhoods that are part of the stories we cover. Those personal photos are always my first choice when they are available.

However, there are times when the right photo simply does not exist, especially when writing about historical topics or general concepts. For example, it may be difficult to find a specific historic image, or the available photos may be copyrighted, low quality, or not suitable for use in a newsletter. In those cases, I sometimes use modern AI image tools to create illustrations that help visually support the article.

These tools have become incredibly useful for publishers, writers, and small creators. They allow someone running a local newsletter to produce clean, relevant visuals without needing a professional photography budget or access to large image libraries. The goal is simply to add helpful visual context so readers can better picture what the article is describing.

It is important to note that these images are not used in an attempt to mislead or deceive anyone. They are meant to serve as visual supplements to the written content. When an image is generated using AI, it is being used as an illustration of the topic rather than a literal photograph of the event or place being described.

Local photography will always remain a big part of the newsletter, and I will continue using my own photos whenever possible. At the same time, AI tools provide another helpful way to bring stories to life and make the newsletter more engaging for readers. Plus they are a lot of fun to create and see what amazing images these tools can generate.

Thanks for reading and supporting the newsletter each week. 🙏
